Used Book Swap

To celebrate the spirit of giving, our class will be having a book swap on Friday, December 19th. Each child has randomly chosen another student to give a book to next week.

Here’s what you need to do:

  • Take a look at the books you have at home that you are done reading.
  • Think about which book you think your person would enjoy.
  • Choose a book that you’ve read and that is in pretty good shape.
  • Wrap your gift or put it in a gift bag (let me know if you need help with this! I have plenty of wrapping paper)
  • Make a homemade card. Write them a thoughtful note, including a compliment to your friend. Remember that it needs to be an inside compliment! Also, explain why you chose this book for your friend.
  • Bring in the gift on Friday, December 20th.

Thank you!

Dear Room 235 Families,

Thank you to everyone who came to listen to the speeches today. Words can't describe just how proud I am of each and every student. My heart is so full!

Each speech truly showed the child's personality. I am so impressed by the voice in their writing! Thank you for filling up our classroom to show support. All too often, we are going about our busy days & we don't take the time to reflect on all the wonderful things in our lives. It's amazing that the kids were able to do this so easily.

I am truly fortunate to spend each day with your children! I hope that your Thanksgiving is filled with happiness, laughter, and loved ones.

Thankfulness Speeches

The fifth graders have been reflecting on the things in their lives for which they are thankful. They are working in class to write speeches to share with you just in time for Thanksgiving.

We’d like to invite you to hear their speeches and celebrate this holiday with us. The event will take place on Tuesday, November 26th at 9:30am in your child’s homeroom. Any family member is invited. Siblings from other grades are welcome to join with permission from the teacher. If you cannot attend, we will do our best to film the speeches so that you can see it.

We look forward to this special event!

Day One

I am sitting here after our first day just thinking about how excited I am for this upcoming year! We had such a wonderful first day. We started with an all school assembly with Mrs. Dressler. The class then went to music (please note the specialist days on the right side of this page). We did a lot of organizing! We spent a good amount of time getting to know each other. One highlight from the day was our "Carousel Walk." I posed a variety of questions and each student responded on a post-it note. This will help us build our Classroom Constitution. Check out some of the responses below:

history, math, long division

calm, safe, fun, quiet

encourage us, help with math skills, help me be a better reader

be respectful, follow rules, be nice, listen

be supportive, help with homework, help me study

listen to all teachers, be kind, put in my best effort

Setting up!

Welcome Room 235!

I hope you enjoyed reading my letter and that you're gearing up for the wonderful year we have ahead of us. Here are the things you need to bring with you on the first day of school:

  • A positive attitude, determination, curiosity, and respect.
  • A brown paper bag filled with 5 items that explain something about you (a picture, a sea shell, a brochure from somewhere…anything that you think represents you! )
  • Your summer reading assignment
Here's what our classroom looks like right now! It will look much different on September 3rd. Look at all of those new supplies waiting for you :)
